Whitehorse – A Liberal government led by Justin Trudeau will make crucial new investments in green infrastructure to grow our economy, strengthen our communities, and improve our quality of life, said Larry Bagnell, Liberal candidate for Yukon.
“Canadians know that creating sustainable prosperity is the way forward, but new challenges have emerged that we must adapt to – challenges like climate change and threats to our water and land,” said Bagnell. “Yukoners know that under the current government, our environment and our economy have paid the price – both locally and nationally. Liberals have a plan to invest in green infrastructure, create clean jobs, and protect our environment right across the country.”
A Liberal government will invest in the green infrastructure projects that so many Yukoner communities need – projects like local water and wastewater facilities, climate resilient infrastructure, energy efficient buildings, and systems to protect against changing weather.
“The people I talk to on the doorstep want real leadership on the environment and economy. That means taking advantage of the numerous economic opportunities in the green tech sector,” said Bagnell. “Liberals will make smart investments now in initiatives like these, so we can give our kids and grandkids a more sustainable, and prosperous country. This is a project that I know many Yukoner’s will have a vested interest in, and can help limit our carbon footprint.”
In addition, Liberals will provide support for large- and community-scale renewable energy projects, and work with the territories and provinces to develop a Canadian Energy Strategy that brings cleaner, renewable energy onto the electricity grid. As with all of the Liberal Party’s infrastructure building plan the needs will shift with the individual community, but would include solar, wind and geothermal energy projects.
